Trophy Species
Chase some of the largest Bonefish in Australia (65–80cm, 6–10lb), along with GTs, Bumpies, Bluefin Trevally, Triggerfish, Coral Trout, XL Trigger Fish and more.
Unmatched Variety
From technical shots in blue holes to fast-paced reef edges, you’ll fish a mix of habitats with expert guides who know exactly where to be and when.

BONE FISH
Cocos Keeling Islands is one of the best places in the world to target trophy Bonefish on foot. With average sizes ranging from 65–80cm (6–10lb), this is true sight fishing at its finest.
Our guides focus on shallow flats that dry out at low tide and attract bait such as crabs, prawns, and other crustaceans. As the tide rises, Bonefish move into these zones, grazing slowly and deliberately. Spotting them is made easier with a good pair of polarised sunglasses, but stealth is everything.
This is a highly visual style of fishing. You’ll often see the Bonefish tip down to feed, track your fly, and then eat, all before you feel the weight. Because their mouths are bony and hard, solid hook sets matter. When everything comes together, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences in saltwater fly fishing.

GIANT TREVALLY (GTs)
Giant Trevally, often called the bullies of the reef, are one of the most sought-after species on Cocos Keeling Islands. Common on both the reef edges and flats, these apex predators are aggressive, powerful, and totally unpredictable, making them a bucket-list catch for any serious saltwater fly angler.
You’ll often spot GTs herding bait into shallow water, sometimes so fast you barely see them before the strike. They hunt in packs and will smash almost anything in front of them, so having a 12-weight rod rigged and ready is essential especially when one of these 80lb monsters appears mid-bonefish session.
We recommend high-quality tackle like Cortland Lines, with welded loops that hold up under extreme pressure. You’ll also want 300–400 metres of braided backing, which is thinner and stronger than traditional materials, and absolutely necessary when chasing GTs on the flats.

BUMP HEAD PARROT FISH
Chasing Bumphead Parrotfish on fly is not for the faint of heart. These prehistoric-looking fish are massive, often visible from over 100 metres away, and while they appear slow and calm, they can unleash pure chaos in seconds.
Known locally as "Bumpies", they’re one of the hardest fish to land on the Cocos Keeling Islands. Their brute strength, hammer like jaws, and ability to shred fly lines in an instant make every encounter unforgettable. Hook-ups often end in broken leaders, bent hooks, or even torn up fingers, but that's part of what makes them so addictive.
To increase your chances, position yourself ahead of a tailing, feeding school, stay perfectly still, and wait for the eat. Precision matters, landing your fly just 30cm off track can make the difference. We recommend a solid 10-weight setup, especially since these fish are not only powerful but also selective and at times, downright fussy.
